THE 2017 HARRISBURG-HERSHEY FILM FESTIVAL

OPENING THIS WEEKEND

***

Lineup includes Features, Documentaries and Shorts from National and International Filmmakers.  It was recently named one of the Top 100 Best Rated Film Festivals according to FilmFreeway, an immense honor after only it’s second year in operation.

Festival will open with Romance In The Digital Age, an original  feature produced in New York.  It will also screen Central PA native John Putch’s newest feature The Father & The Bear, as well as the directorial debut of Karen Allen (of Animal House & Indiana Jones fame), titled A Tree. A Rock.  A Cloud.  The festival also is represented by several international selections, highlighted by the Italian Documentary Ethiopia By Tuk Tuk.

HARRISBURG, PA —The Harrisburg-Hershey Film Festival is proud to announce the selection of titles to be screened at its 3rd Annual Festival. Featuring 75 feature, short, and documentary films, the Festival runs September 15th through the 20th, 2017 at the Midtown Cinema located at 250 Reily Street, Harrisburg.

“We are working on refining the festival selections to the tastes of our audience,” said Hamza Ahmad, Founder and Director of the Harrisburg-Hershey Film Festival. “Much like last year, we encouraged submissions from filmmakers around the world and have accepted several international films from countries including, Italy, Germany, Luxembourg, Finland, and more.”

The Midtown Cinema’s focus on independent films is what prompted the Harrisburg-Hershey Film Festival to continue its partnership with the Harrisburg-based, three-screen cinema house that favors independent and foreign films over blockbusters.

“This is our biggest year yet,” said Ahmad. “We have 75 films from all over the world screening over 5 days.”

This year, the festival continued to include a Short Script Contest. The winner will be announced on the opening night of the festival, and will be invited to be involved in the production of their script in early 2018.

“It was really a wonderful experience getting to read so many interesting scripts from writers not just around the country, but around the world”recounted Hal Cramer, Director of Programming and Judge for the Script Competition of the Harrisburg-Hershey Film Festival. “We’re really looking forward to starting production once we announce the winner.  There was a lot high quality competition, but the winning script was one that really excited me..”
